The signaller deployed by the safety officer is responsible for the safety of all those who work in the vicinity of the tracks and for any related adverse issues. Signallers warn workers in advance of approaching trains using signal mechanisms, and ensure that warning signals are heeded by all concerned, and that the tracks are cleared. If the tracks cannot be cleared in good time, the signaller must notify the train driver using the emergency signal. The signaller must also ensure that the tracks are cleared when visibility is so poor that workers cannot be warned in good time of approaching trains. While all others working in the vicinity of the tracks wear red high-visibility clothing, signallers can be recognised by their yellow high-visibility clothing. |
